Where the forest changes its rhythm.

We are in the Southeast of the Amazon, a unique region of Brazil. Here, the Amazon Rainforest meets the Cerrado.

The rivers are wide, the cycles of flooding and receding waters shape the landscape, and life follows the rhythm of the water. It is in this transitional territory, rich in biodiversity and aquatic landscapes, that the Cantão State Park is located—one of the most impressive natural mosaics in the country, with lakes, channels, and flooded forests that reveal a living and constantly transforming Amazon.

Cantão State Park

Located in western Tocantins, between the Araguaia and Javaés rivers and extending to Bananal Island, it covers approximately 90,000 hectares and is home to between 800 and 900 natural lakes that connect seasonally, forming a dynamic aquatic mosaic that underpins its high biodiversity.

The Canton - An Ecotone: where Amazonia and Cerrado meet

Cantão is a rare place. Not just on the map, but in the logic of nature.

In this environment, different ecological worlds overlap and interact, creating life forms, landscapes, and rhythms that do not entirely belong to any isolated biome; diversity is born from this encounter.

Amazonian species coexist with elements typical of the Cerrado, adapting to variations in soil, water, and light. The landscape reinvents itself each season, revealing a dynamic balance sustained by the alternation between periods of flooding and low water.

More than a conservation area, Cantão is a living territory, where natural processes remain active, connecting water, forest, and fields in a continuous system. This ecological complexity makes the region one of the most preserved and resilient environments in the country—a true natural laboratory, where life is organized by diversity and constant change.

Here, the Cerrado meets the Amazon, and in this encounter, landscapes, rhythms, and ways of life emerge that are not repeated anywhere else in Brazil.

Dense forests coexist with open fields, wetlands transform with the water cycle, and rivers carve paths that sustain one of the most complex and preserved ecosystems in the country.

This unique region, also known as the Araguaia Valley, harbors direct influences from the Cerrado, the Amazon, and also references to the Pantanal. It is this overlapping of biomes that transforms Cantão into a true mosaic of life, where species of different origins coexist, adapt, and thrive, and which has come to be known as the Center of the World, due to its unique characteristics.

The Cantão region, in the Araguaia Valley, experiences two well-defined seasons, which completely transform the landscape and the experiences available throughout the year.

The Stations in Canton

Flood Season (November to April)
During the flood season, river levels rise between 8 and 10 meters, flooding large areas of the forest and giving rise to the igapó forest, an exclusively Amazonian ecosystem.

It is the ideal time for boat trips through the flooded forest, when navigation takes place among the treetops, revealing unique landscapes, great biodiversity, and intense activity of aquatic fauna and birds.

Dry Season (May to October)
During the dry season, river levels gradually decrease, and natural beaches with light sand and calm, warm waters emerge throughout the Araguaia Valley region.

This is the perfect time for river bathing, walks along the banks, contemplation of the landscape, and experiences on the river beaches, when the territory takes on an open, luminous atmosphere conducive to relaxation.

This natural alternation makes Cantão one of the most unique territories in Brazil, offering distinct and equally special experiences throughout the year.

At EcoAraguaia, silence is valued. There is no mass movement, loud music, or constant commotion.

Our space is essentially private, with few units, well distributed and separated from each other, guaranteeing rest, privacy and a genuine connection with nature.
The days begin with birdsong and a delicious breakfast, served in a space that welcomes not only meals, but also quiet conversations, affectionate encounters and carefully planned small events.

The wildlife reflects this abundance.

Jaguars, giant otters, marsh deer, anteaters, caimans, and an impressive diversity of birds find refuge, food, and territory here. Hundreds of species have been recorded, many of them directly dependent on the integrity of this transitional environment.

Near Bananal Island, the world’s largest river island and an indigenous territory of historical and cultural importance, Cantão is consolidating itself as one of the last great preserved refuges of the Tocantins Amazon. A natural gateway where waters, forests, and cultures meet, preserving ancestral knowledge and ecological cycles fundamental to the region’s climatic balance.

Visiting Canton is like crossing that portal.

It’s about understanding that nature isn’t divided by rigid borders, but by encounters. It’s about feeling time slow down, observing life at its own pace, and recognizing that preserving this territory is also preserving the future.

EcoAraguaia was born within this unique setting, consciously integrating itself into one of Brazil’s most valuable natural heritages.

We invite you to experience Cantão not as a spectator, but as an active part of this living landscape.
